Overview

UBCycle is a community platform for the University of British Columbia. By creating an account or using UBCycle in any way, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform. These terms exist to keep UBCycle safe, fair, and useful for everyone in the community.

Eligibility

UBCycle is open to members of the UBC community. You must register with a valid @ubc.ca email address. You are responsible for keeping your account secure and for all activity that occurs under your account. Creating accounts on behalf of others, or sharing your account, is not permitted.

What UBCycle is

UBCycle is a community platform — a space to buy and sell goods, donate items, find sublets, offer services, and connect with people across campus. It is more than a marketplace: it is a tool for building real relationships and a more sustainable, connected UBC community. We provide the platform; interactions, transactions, and agreements happen directly between community members.

Your responsibilities

• Represent yourself and your listings honestly and accurately
• Treat other community members with respect in all interactions
• Only list items and services you are legally entitled to offer
• Arrange safe meetups in public locations on or near campus
• Honour commitments you make to other members

Prohibited conduct

You agree not to:

• List prohibited, illegal, or dangerous items
• Harass, threaten, or discriminate against other community members
• Create fake or duplicate accounts
• Misrepresent yourself, your items, or your services
• Scrape, copy, or reproduce UBCycle content without permission
• Use UBCycle for commercial or business purposes beyond personal listings
• Engage in any activity that violates applicable law or UBC's Student Code of Conduct

Violations may result in listing removal, account suspension, or permanent ban.

Transactions and exchanges

UBCycle connects community members but is not a party to any transaction. All agreements, sales, exchanges, and arrangements are made directly between members. UBCycle is not responsible for the quality, accuracy, safety, or legality of any listing, or for any dispute that arises between members. We strongly recommend meeting in person in a public place before completing any exchange.

Your content

You own the content you post on UBCycle — listings, photos, descriptions, and messages. By posting, you grant UBCycle a limited, non-exclusive licence to display that content to other community members on the platform. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to post any content you upload, including images.

Platform availability

UBCycle is provided as-is and we make no guarantees about uptime, data preservation, or uninterrupted access. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the platform at any time. We will do our best to give notice of significant changes.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as UBCycle grows. Continued use of the platform after changes are posted means you accept the updated terms. We will notify community members of significant changes.
