Privacy Policy

Overview

UBCycle is a community platform for the University of British Columbia. We take privacy seriously and are committed to being transparent about what data we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it. This policy applies to all users of ubcycle.ca.

What we collect

• →Account information. Your name and UBC email address when you sign up.
• →Profile details. Any optional information you choose to add — bio, photo, year of study, faculty, and interests.
• →Listings and posts. Content, images, descriptions, and pricing you provide when creating listings, sublets, or service offers.
• →Messages. Direct messages sent between community members within UBCycle.
• →Usage data. Basic analytics like pages visited and features used, to help us improve the platform.

How we use your information

• To provide, maintain, and improve UBCycle
• To verify that you are part of the UBC community
• To enable communication between community members
• To send in-app notifications about your activity
• To personalise your experience based on your interests and activity
• To enforce our community guidelines and keep the platform safe

Who can see your information

Your listings and public profile are visible to other verified UBC community members. Your email address is never displayed to other users. Messages are private and only visible to the participants in that conversation. If you set your profile to private, you will not appear in the Members directory.

Data storage and security

Your data is stored securely using Supabase, a trusted cloud infrastructure provider with industry-standard encryption and access controls. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties.

Cookies and tracking

UBCycle uses cookies only for authentication (keeping you logged in) and basic session management. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party trackers.

Your rights

• You can update your profile information at any time from your profile page
• You can delete your own listings and messages at any time
• You can request full deletion of your account and all associated data by emailing us

Deleting your account

You can permanently delete your account at any time from your profile page. This instantly removes your profile, listings, messages, and all associated data — it cannot be undone. If you run into any issues, email hello@ubcycle.ca.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as UBCycle grows. If we make significant changes, we will notify community members via in-app notification. Continued use of UBCycle after changes are posted means you accept the updated policy.
